With Halloween this past week, it’s no surprise that a variety of fright flicks have flooded the channels including actor Craig Horner’s See No Evil, a gruesome horror featuring a bunch of teenage delinquents being targeted by a sadistic psychopath while cleaning a rundown hotel.

“I thought See No Evil was great!” offers an enthusiastic Horner. “That was the first American production I had done. We shot it in Australia at the Warner Brothers studio there with a fellow friend and former roommate, Rachel Taylor, who is actually doing well in the U.S. market. It was a six week shoot and a lot of fun.”

Filmed in New Zealand, which seems to be the country-of-choice for anything fantasy since “Lord of the Rings” was filmed there so many years ago, “Legend of the Seeker” is based on the popular “Sword of Truth” book series by Terry Goodkind. The series is superbly filmed, though New Zealand’s countryside definitely is attributes to the all-around beauty of the shots. Upon first viewing, one would assume that “Seeker” is a movie rather than a television series.

The series is the first film version of Goodkind’s best-selling novels and is produced by super-hero gurus, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert (Xena and Hercules). “Seeker” will be the first nationally syndicated fantasy series in a long while. Normally such a series would only be picked up by the Sci-Fi channel or some other cable outlet, leaving those of us without cable to ho hum to ourselves and hide our jealousy.

When prompted to describe his co-star Bridget in three words, Horner did not hesitate. “Effervescent. Sassy. And just fun – plain fun!” he said.

When asked which three words she might use to describe him, he speculated, “Strange. Disobedient. And……I occasionally go walkabout, so what’s a word for that? Where you just kind of wander off…..?

“There’s ‘restless’,” I suggested. “Or ‘adventurous’…….”

I like adventurous,” he responded. “That’s better than restless!

In speaking with Bridget a few days later, she painted a wildly different portrait of Horner than he imagined she would.

Three words for Craig Horner?” she said. “I would have to say…..driven. Smiley. And…..gosh, I want to pick a good one……..open. Emotionally open.

You’re going to laugh, but when we had our first kiss, in the eighth episode or something like that, and both of the characters gave in for a moment……there was all this talk around it – this kiss has got to be epic, and……I happened to watch Brokeback Mountain the week before. And I was on set, and I found myself saying, “You know what? It’s so Brokeback Mountain!” People kept looking at me like, “Are you kidding?

It is the afternoon before Halloween and Bridget Regan is excited about her costume; a T-shirt and jeans. That’s right — just a normal, comfortable outfit. “I’m in costume and hair and makeup so much these days,” she explains, reminiscing on the times just a few years ago when she and her girls would go all out on Halloweens in Manhattan. “This show has made me really low maintenance.

Over the past six months Regan has called the picturesque terrain of New Zealand her home while shooting the first 22 episodes of the Disney / ABC Family series Legend of the Seeker, an epic fantasy series based on “The Sword of Truth” novels by Terry Goodkind. Think The Lord of the Rings trilogy as a television series — fewer battle scenes and no nosy little hobbits, but plenty of sorcery, sword-play, and dramatic sets to keep both boy and girl fans entertained. Regan stars as Kahlan Amnell, a beautiful witch in a mythical world who must guide and protect an unsuspecting young peasant — Australian newcomer Craig Horner — who has been deemed the legendary Seeker, the hero who will free her land and people from the tyranny of evil. “It’s amazing to play a character where I’ve literally had to transform who I am as a person, where I had to do more then blow dry my hair for an audition,” Regan says.
